"And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them."
- Exodus 25:8

This vessel in the Coptic Orthodox Church, which sits on the altar and hosts the Blood of Christ in the chalice, is referred to as the "throne" or "ark". Traditionally, it is cubic, hexagonal or octagonal.

This throne was commissioned to accommodate 8 icons placed around the throne.
Each Icon is tension held in place to accommodate multiple Icon thicknesses. The icons are framed by pillars on each side of the openings as well as a dome with a simple pattern on the top and leaves stretching across the bottom with a cross in the center to match the iconostasis at the church it would call home. This same cross design is found on the lid of the throne. Underneath the lid are two flaps that hinge open to reveal the heart of the throne where the chalice is placed.

The throne was made completely with the use of hand tools.
