This cross is made from purpleheart wood and maple. IC XC NIKA (Jesus Christ Conquers) Is found around the carving of Christ's intense expression of victory over death. Down the handle is a ladder to show Christ's descent to hades. The recesses in the ladder can also be used in the same function as a prayer rope as you run your finger up and down to count Jesus prayer or "Lord have mercy" prayers. At the hilt of the cross is a carving of Christ's hand pulling humanity out of Hades. On the back of the cross is a detail carving with a verse from the book of Daniel on the hilt:
"My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths"(Daniel 6:22)
